Supervisor Laboratory Technical
Position Summary:
Supervises technical and non-technical activities of the assigned clinical laboratory section(s) ensuring testing operates efficiently and effectively and complies with all system and regulatory agency standards. Provides input into the development of department policies and procedures. Ensures laboratory personnel maintain current knowledge of laboratory techniques, procedures and equipment operation. Assists in meeting the business, financial, customer, service quality and regulatory requirements of the laboratory. Serves as a technical resource for department personnel.
** Position for Histology Department Laboratory Supervisor
Board Certified Histotechnologist (HTL) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience (5 years’ experience preferred in both Histology and Cytology supervision).
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the assigned laboratory section(s).
2. Plans daily work schedule and assignments for section(s) ensuring that work is done and reported promptly and accurately. Supports manager(s) in preparing schedules and arranging coverage.
3. Recognizes the need for and assumes departmental responsibilities daily, when scheduled or in the case of staffing shortages.
4. Ensures testing operates efficiently and effectively, in accordance with all system and regulatory agency standards. Does so by monitoring department turnaround times; investigating and implementing corrective action; monitoring inventory and ordering supplies.
5. Complies with preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
6. Serves as technical resource to subordinates in resolving complex problems and in investigating and recommending corrective actions in response to incident reports and/or patient complaints.
7. Ensures the attainment of objectives through developing, training and evaluating lab staff; participates in hiring process.
8. Makes suggestions to manager for improved work methods and ways to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and solve operational problems.
9. Performs and verifies staff competencies.
10. Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Required:
⦁ Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Laboratory Science or equivalent under the 1988 Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines of high complexity testing.
⦁ Credential Maintenance Program is required for all individuals who are certified beginning January 1, 2004.
⦁ Minimum of four years of experience in related discipline.
Requirements for Clinical Laboratory Supervisor (Specialty/Subspecialties, e.g. Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunohematology, etc.):
⦁ Completion of MT/MLS (medical laboratory science)/CLS (clinical laboratory science) internship, MT (ASCP) or equivalent.
Requirements for Anatomic Pathology, Histology Supervisor:
⦁ American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) board certified Histotechnologist (HTL) or equivalent.
⦁ Possession of active QIHC (Qualification in Immunohistochemistry) through the ASCP Board of Certification, preferred.
Requirements for Anatomic Pathology, Cytology Supervisor:
⦁ American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) board certified Cytotechnologist (CT) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience or Specialist in Cytotechnology (SCT) or equivalent.
Preferred:
⦁ Five years of experience in a diversified hospital laboratory health system and previous supervisory experience.
⦁ Position for Histology Department Laboratory Supervisor, afternoon/midnight shift.
⦁ Board Certified Histotechnologist (HTL) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience (5 years’ experience preferred).
