Manager Sterile Processing
Position Summary: Provides overall technical direction and administration to sterile processing personnel, ensuring system of sterile processing operates efficiently and effectively. Regularly reviews and revises, as necessary, sterile processing standards and ensures procedures performed comply with all hospital, system and regulatory agency standards. Coordinates provision of sterile processing services with other medical functions and serves as technical resource for departmental personnel. Meets and consults with director for policies, procedures, forms, instrumentation, equipment, supplies and to promote standardization across the system.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Plans and administers directly, and through subordinate supervisory personnel, the effective management and delivery of sterile processing procedures in accordance with all hospital, system and regulatory agency standards.
- Ensures quality, financial, and customer service objectives are met.
- Develops, secures approval of and administers capital and operating budgets in order to meet agreed-upon departmental goals and objectives. Develops and implements appropriate methods to monitor adherence to budgets and resolve variances.
- Serves as technical resource to subordinates in resolving complex problems and in investigating and recommending corrective actions in response to incident reports and/or patient complaints.
- Reviews and approves recommendations for department equipment modifications, new supplies, and minor equipment purchases.
- Recommends and secures approval of major capital expense items initiating bidding process with vendors and upon approval, warding bids.
- Fosters smoothly running sterile processing functions through timely and effective resolution of disruptions.
- Ensures the attainment of objectives through the selection, development, training and evaluation of staff.
- Ensures that all sterile processing activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, federal and governmental regulations and laws.
- Performs other related duties as required and directed.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- three years' experience in sterile processing and/or operating room in an acute care setting, including two years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Current CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) or IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management) certification as a technician.
- Current Certification in Healthcare Leadership from CBSPD or IAHCSMM required within one year of hire into position.
- Bachelor's degree in health care administration or business administration or related field preferred.
