Manager Health Information Management
Position Summary:
Supports the HIM leadership by managing the HIM, Release of Information (ROI) and Transcription functions. Functional assignments include medical records, customer service, health information, release of information, transcription, information system analysis and management, electronic data interchange and optical imaging management. Represents HIM Department in site meetings with other departments. Contributing member of the revenue cycle leadership team.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Manages the daily operations of the HIM Department and guides the efficient and effective process for HIM, abstracting, and data reporting of inpatient, and outpatient encounters.
- Provides leadership for HIM staff with training, compliance reviews, regulatory guidance, work distribution, and monitoring of accounts receivable issues related to HIM.
- Ensures process and guidelines meet state, federal, hospital, and other external agencies requirements and standards.
- Oversees vendors supporting HIM functions within the organization.
- Conducts performance appraisal reviews and routine assessment of staff competency providing timely and appropriate feedback.
- Develops and implements plans to ensure the achievement of established objectives.
- Works with the medical staff to improve clinical documentation to facilitate accurate HIM.
- Assists in maintaining and enforcing policies, procedures, and training materials related to the HIM Department.
- Coordinates all quality and compliance monitoring of coded records and is responsible for coordinating periodic HIM compliance reviews to assure accuracy by the HIM specialists.
- Serves as a key participant in the revenue cycle process.
Qualifications:
Required:
· Associate’s degree in HIM or closely related field
· Five years’ experience in a leadership role in HIM and/or revenue cycle in health care.
Preferred:
Bachelors degree HIM or closely related field
Ten years’ experience in a progressively more responsible leadership role in HIM and/or revenue cycle in health care.
- RHIT or RHIA certified
- CRCR certified
