Full Time position

8 hour shift - Hours: 7am to 3:30pm

Department: Surgical Services

Position Summary:

Main responsibilities: running the OR desk and in charge of OR operational schedule. Responsible for overseeing the nursing plan of care for patients within the assigned unit/units and contributes to the delivery of patient/family centered care.   Directs patient care through performance and/or leadership of patient care team members and patient care management staff.  Assists in the coordination of patient care through the appropriate utilization of all resources; staff, equipment, supplies, etc. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Maintains operational responsibility for assigned unit/units in collaboration with the assigned clinical manager.        
  2. Promotes collaboration regarding patient care issues with various staff levels and disciplines.  In collaboration with other members of the leadership team, ensures staff participation in orientation, mandatory and continuing education programs and other staff development opportunities.
  3. Demonstrates leadership role through clinical practice, supervision, teaching, research, and communicating changes in policies and procedures.
  4. Keeps Clinical Manager/Director informed of all concerns, problems and project progress
  5. Serves as resource for staff; promoting critical thinking and evidence based practice.
  6. Ensures that day- to-day quality and appropriateness of care is maintained, monitored and relevant action plans are developed and implemented.
  7. Utilizes objective measurement tools to evaluate the quality of nursing care delivered to patients served.
  8.  Assures appropriate delegation and supervision of patient care.
  9. Supports and maintains an interdisciplinary approach to patient care by the medical staff and other health care professionals to provide optimal patient care.  Encourages contribution toward the plan of care.
  10. Demonstrates organization ability by using time, equipment, and personnel effectively.  Responsible for assistance with staffing, scheduling, evaluating, counseling and discipline of unit personnel.
  11. Maintains optimal nursing practice through planned and continuous professional growth and development.  Demonstrates ones own need for continuing education by seeking new learning experiences and maintains knowledge of current trends of nursing care practices & management methods.
  12. Participates in departmental quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities as directed.
  13. Performs other related job duties as requested

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    ·          Associate degree in Nursing

    ·         Current State of Michigan RN license

    ·         One year of experience as a Registered Nurse/Charge Nurse or Assistant Manager in Surgical Services, OR or PACU 

    ·         One year of prior work experience in Acute care nursing within the past year and previous charge nurse experience/Clinically appropriate experience

    ·         BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date.

     

          Preferred: 

    ·         Three years of prior work experience in acute care nursing experience within the past year and previous charge nurse experience/Clinically appropriate experience
