Surgical Technologist-Full Time
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assists the surgeon by passing instruments and other equipment in a prescribed manner.
- Maintains an orderly surgical field.
- May be called upon to retract tissue, cut sutures, sponge blood from a wound, clamp tissues, or alter body tissue under direct supervision of surgeon only.
- Takes part in sponge, needle and instrument counts.
- Identifies and preserves tissue specimens received during surgery.
- Circulates under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse:
- Opens sterile supplies before and during the case.
- Helps to position the patient on surgery bed.
- Does surgical shave preps when assigned.
- Ties gowns of scrubbed personnel.
- Handles non-sterile equipment.
- Assists in transporting the patient to the recovery room following surgery.
- Assists in ordering and stocking supplies.
- Prepares instruments and supplies for sterilization.
- Assists in safe transportation of patients in and out of the department.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- of one year of experience as a scrub technician in a hospital setting or accredited school for Surgical Technician
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
Preferred:
- Basic and advanced course in Operating Room Technology or Armed Forces training
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Extensive contact with patients, physicians, nurses, and other hospital staff
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Knowledge of sterilization techniques and use of sterilizer
- Knowledge of admitting patients into surgery
- Ability to work calmly under stressful situations

__ Sedentary Work: Lifting 10 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying such
articles as dockets, ledgers, and small tools. Although sedentary job is defined as one which
involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out
job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and
other sedentary criteria are met.
__ Light Work: Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects
weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible
amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant
degree, or when it involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling
of arm and/or leg controls.
__ Medium Work: Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of
objects weighing 25 pounds or more.
