Position Summary:  Assists with the preparation of patients, rooms, and equipment for surgical procedures at the Ambulatory Surgery Center. Ensures proper care and use of surgical instruments. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physician’s preference
  2. Inspects equipment for proper working condition
  3. Arranges instruments according to given procedure
  4. Assists in the preparation of patients for surgical procedure, including transport
  5. Maintains availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays
  6. Passes sterile surgical equipment to surgeons during surgical procedure
  7. Ensures the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in operating room
  8. Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and takes action, according to policy
  9. Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA
  10. Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room
  11. Assists in storing and stocking supplies as directed
  12. Performs other related job duties as requested.

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a surgical technology training program
  • Certification as a surgical technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date.

Preferred: 

  • Previous operating room experience
  • Ambulatory Surgical Center experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians and coworkers
