Surgical Services Aide
The Surgical Services Aide performs nonprofessional activities to assist the Registered Nurses and Surgical Technologists in caring for patients. Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or Surgical Technologist when this function has been delegated by the R.N. Assists with the clerical and hostess functions of the nursing unit; transcribes physician orders; maintains records, schedules patient test, expedites messages; orders and checks supplies; reports needed repairs.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Assist in the Operating Room as required.
• Assist in Same Day Surgery as assigned
• Assist with preparing patients preoperatively.
• Assists with preparation of surgical environment.
• Assists with endoscopic procedures as assigned.
• Maintains the patient record according to hospital policy.
• Maintains required reports.
• Exhibits appropriate and courteous behavior when interacting with patients, families, the community and members of the health care team.
• Maintains liaison activities with support departments.
• Maintains neat and pleasant working environment.
• Maintains an organized work station.
• Assures responsibility for legal/ethical and professional behaviors.
• Maintains a safe, comfortable and efficient environment for patients and fellow staff members.
• Assists the R.N in the care of patients as assigned.
• Documents care in medical records.
• Communicates effectively with patients, family and health care team.
• Supports the philosophy, goals and policies of the Department of Nursing and nursing unit.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Must have basic computer knowledge/experience
· Minimum of one (1) year direct patient care experience
· BLS certification within 60 days of hire/transfer
Preferred:
- Previous Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant or EMT experience
- Previous Operating Room experience
