Registered Nurse - Interventional Radiology
Uses clinical judgment skills to diagnose and treat patient responses to actual or potential health conditions. Assesses, monitors, detects, plans and takes appropriate action to prevent potential physiological complications and promotes optimal level of health. Accountable for integrating care within scope of practice licensure, relevant education and experience. Is accountable to the Director of Imaging Services. Utilizes Policies and Procedures to guide job duties. Level specific criteria are evaluated annually.
1. Assesses patient status on admission to the radiology observation unit, the IR suite, and on a continuing basis. 2. Provides safe, therapeutic quality care to patients by utilizing the nursing process and nursing diagnosis in a timely manner and by setting appropriate priorities. Coordinates nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and to ensure readiness for discharge. Documents interventions and patient’s responses. 3. Ensures provision of patient care in an organized and timely manner. 4. Utilizes nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care. 5. Communicates appropriate information regarding patient conditions to those who require the information, including, the Interventional Radiologist, anesthesia, management, and other staff. 6. Safely carries out physician’s orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities. 7. Initiates and participates in patient and family education. Assesses learning needs according to patient’s level of understanding and readiness to learn. 8. Displays an understanding of each patient’s cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturity in assessments, treatment, and care. 9. Takes part in pre and post-op phone calls (as needed) and communicates any problems to the appropriate person. 10. Maintains competencies to function in RN role within specific area. 11. Maintain competencies in conscious sedation administration and monitoring of sedated patient, including airway protection and assessment and support of sedated patients. 12. Protect sedated and anesthetized patients by identifying safety hazards such as electrical equipment and pressure points and by minimizing exposure to maintain privacy and body temperature. 13. Maintains expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique and universal precautions. 14. Assesses, anticipates and implements appropriate care throughout the surgical process. 15. Performs other related job duties as requested.
- Clinical Expertise: Collaborates with other members of the health care team to develop, implement, and evaluate an individualized written plan of care based upon a physiological, psychosocial, spiritual assessment consistent with patient/significant other’s changing needs & goals, utilizing the Clinical Practice Model (CPM) and the “Caring-Quality Model.”

- Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed by general and unit-specific competency-based objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Graduate of a Nursing Program
Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license
BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA) is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date
ACLS certification within 60 days of start date
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Ability to apply and modify the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
Ability to develop and maintain department quality assurance.
Procedural experience with medication administration for conscious sedation
Bachelor's in Nursing degree preferred.
