Obstetric Technician I
Department: Family Birth Place

Position Summary: Assist medical and nursing staff during labor and delivery procedures. Provides direct patient care to mother and baby as directed by the registered nurse. Responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of the labor and delivery rooms and that they are fully prepared.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provides care and support to mothers and newborns as directed by the RN.
- Ensures that delivery and operating rooms are clean, sterile, and stocked before deliveries, including sterilizing surgical instruments.
- Provides delivery assistance under the direction of the RN that may include coaching the mother with breathing and pushing.
- May process, label, and send specimens to the lab.
- Sets up, scrubs, and supports members of the team during deliveries and caesarean sections.
- Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
- Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste, and other policies and protocols.
- Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) months of job-related experience and/or training.
- BLS certification, Canadian equivalent
Preferred:
- Associate degree in surgical technology.
- One (1) year of experience in a medical setting.
