Position Summary: 

Has responsibility for 24-hour accountability for the management of assigned patient care unit(s)/function(s). In this capacity, will accomplish the mission and vision of McLaren Greater Lansing through effective utilization of all resources, constantly striving to increase quality patient care and maintain a high degree of patient satisfaction.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 

1. Ensures a process is in place for the establishment of standards of performance, quality improvement and care delivery model for their areas of responsibility.  Monitors the process to ensure it is working.

2. Solves problems related to the functioning of the department, both interdepartmental and intradepartmental. Involves staff in this process.  Ensures process moves to desirable outcome.  Delegates to Patient Care Coordinator as appropriate.

3. All aspects of personnel management of department employees.  Demonstrates collaborative interpersonal and communication skills.  Facilitates high performance from staff.

4. Determines and coordinates departmental needs and operations regarding schedules and staffing patterns. Responsible for establishing and meeting productivity benchmarks.

5. Develops, interprets, administers and communicates department policies, procedures, protocols and regulations.

6. Analyses, plans, forecasts and reports department activities.

7. Develops, coordinates, implements and justifies the department’s budget.  Displays knowledge and action plan to ensure cost effectiveness.

8. Maintains and enhances communication channels.

9. Implements, promotes and reinforces employee performance relating to patient satisfaction.

10. Participates as requested on service line committees.

11. Communicates with and mentors staff representatives on committees. Supports and facilitates staff involvement in meeting attendance.

12. Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members.

13. Ensures that all evaluations and competencies are current. Reviews content of evaluations if not completed by Patient Care Services Manager.

14. Maintains compliance with all required accreditation standards.

15. Reviews patient satisfaction feedback on a regular basis and develops a plan to address issues and improve overall rating.

16. Ensures that a quality improvement and education plan are in place for units.

17. Demonstrates unit ownership through maintenance, cleanliness and lack of clutter of unit.

18. Investigates and identifies department capital needs, presents formal request and justification to Director or Vice President of Nursing/CNO.

19. Networks with other managers and remains current in new advancements and changes in patient treatments and technologies.

20. Facilitates and promotes opportunities for the professional development of staff.

21. Identifies and works towards own professional growth.

22. Maintains/develops basic competencies for the patient population of their unit, ensuring the standard of care is met.

23. Cooperates as a member of the management team.  Advocates system goals, programs and image.

24. Cooperates with other education and service agencies in meeting the health care needs of the community.

25. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

      Required:

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited school of nursing (BSN) or Bachelor of Science (BS).  (Associate degree /diploma in nursing may be considered with five or more years of relevant experience.  Must complete BSN or BS within 3 to 5 years from date of hire.) 
  • Licensed registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • BLS certification as Healthcare Provider.
  • Demonstrated management potential or middle management experience.

      Preferred:

  •       Master Degree in Nursing or related field.
