Manager Activities (Lake Orion)
Position Summary: Plans, implements, and evaluates activities for facility residents. Designs programs to encourage socialization, provide entertainment, relaxation, and fulfillment, and improve daily living skills. May also manage the facility's volunteer program. Ensures activities comply with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the administrator.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Provides leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the activity’s programs of the facility. Plans, develops, directs, evaluates, and coordinates activities programs supportive of these goals.
2. Provides for an ongoing program of activities designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident. Plans of activities may include, but is not limited to:
§ Group social activities.
§ Indoor and outdoor activities, which may include daily walks.
§ Activities away from the facility.
§ Spiritual programs and attendance at houses of worship.
§ Opportunities for resident involvement in planning and implementation of the activities program.
§ Creative activities such as arts, crafts, music, drama, educational programs.
§ Exercise activities.
§ One to one attention.
§ Promotion of facility/community interaction.
3. Obtains necessary equipment and supplies and provide for their accessibility through organized storage.
4. Fosters family and community support of the activity program (e. g., through newsletters, networking, activities which bring family members or members of the community into the facility, etc.).
5. Contributes to facility efforts to maintain and /or improve quality of care through participation in care plan meetings and committees.
6. Develops and trains personnel within the department and reviews and appraises their performance. Responsible for assuring competency of all staff.
7. Directs and coordinates assigned department activities to insure they are efficient, timely, and meet cost and quality objectives; and that all activities and services comply with local, state, federal, and governmental regulations, and laws.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
9. Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Qualifications:
Required:
· Bachelor's degree
· Therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional licensed by the state
· Two years of college in a related area
· Two years of experience in a social or recreational program, one of which was full time in a resident activities program in a health care setting
