Responsible for the overall planning, direction and operation of the general accounting functions for the organization.  Establishes and maintains an accounting system to meet the organization’s needs.  Responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.  Ensures employees and vendors of the organization are paid accurately and timely.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Manages and coordinates the activities of the department.
  2. Maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  3. Documents current accounting controls and procedures.  Develops and maintains procedures as changes in operations warrant.
  4. Performs periodic tests of transactions to ensure that compliance with controls is maintained.  Reports errors or inconsistencies to appropriate managers, and make recommendations for improvement.
  5. Supervises and assists in the preparation of account analysis of year-end balances.
  6. May prepare or assist with preparation of annual tax returns.
  7. Acts as the audit liaison for the annual financial audit, as well as any IRS audits.

Required:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Five years of experience in accounting/finance

 Preferred: 

 

  • Master’s degree
