Mammography Technologist
Exercises professional judgment in the performance of screening and diagnostic mammography, and bone density exams. Provides patient care essential to the exam. Applies principles of radiation protection and evaluates radiographs produced for technical quality. Takes direction from the Lead Mammography Technologist.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Performs screening and diagnostic mammography exams, interventional breast procedures, and bone density studies.
- Proficient operation of mammographic and bone density equipment.
- Participates in mammography QC tasks and other aspects of quality improvement.
- Assists with data collection and patient follow-up.
- Maintains a safe working environment according to radiation safety and infection control standards.
- Interviews the patient and documents thorough clinical history.
- Participates in patient education and maintains confidentiality.
- Assist in training of new personnel when necessary.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Satisfactory completion of a Radiology program
- Registered with the A.R.R.T (R)
- Advanced registry in Mammography (M)
- BLS card from AHA required before start date (valid at least 60 days beyond start date)
- One year of prior work experience in Mammography
- Registered in Ultrasound with the A.R.R.T. (BS)
- Registered in Bone Densitometry with the A.R.R.T (BD)
- Three years prior work experience in mammography
