Position Summary:

House Physician has a limited medical practice. They may only practice while employed under the direct supervision of an MD or DO. The supervising physician must be a member of the Karmanos Cancer Center Active Medical Staff.

Applicants for this position must have one of the following: Be a graduate of an Allopathic US Medical School of a school recognized and approved by the US Office of Education OR Be a graduate of an allopathic international medical school.


 

Responsibilities:

  • Collect, record and maintain sensitive patient information such as examination results, medical history and reports. 
  • Provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate and effective for the treatment of health problems and the promotion of health.
  • Diagnosis, work-up management and treatment of definitive cancers, recurrent and metastatic cancers, and post-operative treatment of patients
  • Effectively communicate and demonstrate a caring and respectful behavior when interacting with patients and their families
  • Gather essential information about their patients
  • Make informed decisions about diagnostic and therapeutic interventions based on patient information, preferences, recent scientific evidence and clinical judgement.
  • Perform competently all medical and invasive procedures considered essential for the area of practice.
  • Develop and carry out patient management plans.
  • Use information technology to support patient care decisions and patient education.
  • Assist in providing health care services aimed at preventing health problems and maintaining health.
  • Work with other health care professionals including those from other disciplines to provide patient focused care.
  • Counsel patients with assistance regarding treatment options and obtaining informed consent.
  • Respond to after-hours calls from patients at home, and advise appropriate action.
  • Adhere to all KCI policies and procedures.


Qualifications:

  • License to practice medicine (MD or DO) in the State of Michigan.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
