Director Pharmacy
Position Summary:
Establishes and directs a comprehensive pharmacy services program, including, but not limited to, retail pharmacy, long term care pharmacy, medication therapy management, home and ambulatory infusion, specialty pharmacy, mail-order pharmacy according to established policies, standard practices of profession, and state and federal laws. Initiates pharmacy program development, collaborates with system leadership and executes multi-site start-up and expansion, and identifies revenue growth opportunities. Responsible for supervising and evaluating work performance of pharmacists and support staff, quality, revenue cycle, information system(s) implementation, purchasing, inventory, asset and expense control and communication.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Formulates and achieves strategic plan initiatives related to Pharmacy Services. 2. Responsible for coordination of Pharmacy Services in conjunction with other departments and other McLaren Health Care Subsidiaries. 3. Collaborates with other leaders to perform market research and analysis, develop pro formas as appropriate, and lead the implementation of the program development strategies and business planning determined in the strategic plans. 4. Works in conjunction with other leadership, including CEOs and leadership of hospitals, in order to establish departmental policies and procedures. Resolves issues and concerns related to the same. 5. Oversight of management level employees including interview, selection, training, performance appraisal, work allocation and discipline. Travels regularly to offices/entities within the service delivery area. |
6. Oversees/approves McLaren Pharmacy departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety program, environmental and infection control standards. |
7. Prepares for changes in regulatory and reimbursement as it pertains to the Pharmacy Operations. |

9. Prepares written documentation as required by the business and the department (policies/procedures), meeting applicable accreditation standards, and state and federal guidelines. |
10. Develops in conjunction with finance Pharmacy budgets and is accountable for the expense and capital equipment expenses for the pharmacy retail locations. |
11. Ensures accuracy of inventory control practices. |
12. Becomes educated and proficient in the operation of the computer systems used by Pharmacy. |
13. Analyzes records on quality assurance, staff continuing education and other related record-keeping functions and takes appropriate action. |
14. Ensures cross training of personnel and assures maintenance of licensing and orientation records for staff. 15. Plans, organizes and directs all phases of product distribution activities. 16. Analyzes inventory reports and surplus stock lists to determine need for improvement in control methods; directs the initiation of corrective measures to restore satisfactory inventory control balance. 17. . 18. Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings as assigned. 19. Reviews results of billing activities and works with Finance Director to achieve AR goals. 20. Qualifications:
Required:
- Current Michigan Pharmacist and controlled substance licensure required.
- Possess a minimum of two (2) years of pharmacy operations with retail and/or clinical pharmacy experience with intravenous medication therapy.
- Five (5) years of management experience directing pharmacy operations and expanding programs, preferably in a retail or specialty pharmacy environment.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license and proof of current automobile insurance.
Preferred:
· Sales experience, managed care experience, billing experience, familiarity with governing regulations.
