Director Patient Care Services
Position Summary:
Responsible for the department’s quality improvement program and participates in performance improvement activities, evaluation and planning of departmental/unit activities, orientation program in respective units, and all patient related clinical activities in area of jurisdiction at all times. Assures compliance with all regulatory and other agency requirements, laws and statutes pertaining to the operation of the department.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Uses independent judgment to exercise authority on behalf of the Medical Center, or effectively recommend such action in the following areas:
a. May request, interview, and make hiring decisions in regard to personnel for this area;
b. May discipline subordinates according to
c. Advocates for appropriate numbers of staff order to operationalize monthly/daily staff schedules;
d. Attempts to resolve customer complaints/concerns (internal & external);
e. Conducts annual performance appraisal interviews with subordinates;
f. Recommends employee advancements/wage increases administrative consideration.
2. Responsible for the department’s quality improvement program and tracks/trends in performance metrics.
3. Responsible for the evaluation and planning of departmental/unit activities.
4. Available for problem-solving any clinical issues 24/7 or delegates that responsibility to a peer for any planned absences.
5. Oversees the achievement of the standards of Nursing practice commensurate with the Nursing Code of Ethics and Michigan Public Health Code.
6. Responsible for the orientation program in respective units. Ensures new employees successfully complete all aspects of (pre-defined) nursing education/validation prior to employee functioning independently.
7. While maintaining own professional competence, assures annual skills validation program meets the educational needs of employees.
8. Assures compliance with all regulatory and other agency requirements, laws and statutes pertaining to the operation of the department.
9. Evaluates and approves purchases of departmental equipment and supplies.
10. Responsible for fiscal management including staffing, budget, and productivity standards.
11. Responsible for the formulation and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
12. Maintains high level of physician, staff and customer/patient satisfaction.
13. Role models Bay Pride behaviors and ensures employees display behaviors.
14. Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to the department standards.

15. Participates in performance improvement activities.
16. Performs other related duties as required and directed.
- Demonstrates understanding and competence in all areas of Evidenced Based Leadership including: leader rounding, thank you notes, stoplight reports, 30/90 day conversations, leadership development institutes, linkage grids, skills validation, AIDET, hourly rounding, and High-Middle-Low conversations.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Master's degree in Nursing or health related field required or completed within twenty-four (24) months of hire/transfer
- Must possess current Michigan RN license
- Strong clinical background with emphasis on acute care
- Five (5) years progressive management experience
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing
- CPR issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification
Preferred:
· Acute care hospital experience.
