Position Summary:
Expert in the use of food and nutrition to promote health and manage disease, advises clients/people on what to eat in order to lead a healthy lifestyle or achieve a specific health-related goal. Advises and counsels others on food and nutrition. Explains nutrition issues to clients, assess their dietary and health needs, develops meal plans, and gauges the effects of the meal plans. May promote nutrition through public speaking and community outreach programs.
1. Assesses patients’ nutritional and health needs, including their expected nutritional outcomes.
2. Develops meal and nutrition plans, taking both patients’ preferences and budgets into account.
3. Counsels patients and their families on nutrition issues and healthy eating habits.
4. Evaluates the effects of nutrition plans and changes the plans as needed.
5. Documents assessment findings, services provided and patients’ progress.
6. Promotes better health by speaking to groups about diet, nutrition, and the relationship between good eating habits and preventing or managing specific diseases.
7. Creates/modifies educational materials about healthy food choices.
8. Provides quality, personalized and evidence-based care and proven interventions.
9. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. May develop and conduct in-service training programs.
10. Complies with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.

Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, clinical nutrition, public health nutrition, or a related area.
• Current Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential which is administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic.
• Expertise in food/nutrition, food preparation and production experience.
• Prior experience preferred.
