Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist Registered Nurse - McLaren Central
Qualifications:
Required
· Current Registered Nurse License in the State of practice
· Minimum 5 years of acute hospital care experience
· Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS), or obtain certification when eligible as defined by the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists – ACDIS, and maintenance of continuing education requirements
· Member (or obtain within 1 year of service) with the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS)
Preferred:
- CDIP certification
- Experience with CDI Software Tools (i.e. 3M 360, JATA, ChartWise, other)
- Knowledge of coding/documentation and billing regulations related to commercial insurance, Medicaid and Medicare. (i.e., APR-DRG, MS-DRG, Medicare, Medicaid & Managed Care)
- Experience in Utilization Management/Case Management, Critical Care, and patient outcomes/quality management preferred. Inpatient coding experience desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Ability to analyze data for patterns and trends.
· Ability to prioritize work, focus on completion of tasks and meet deadlines through strong organizational skills.
· Ability to use computer systems; computer skills and knowledge of various software packages including database and spreadsheet programs.
· Able to spend majority of time utilizing a computer, monitor, keyboard and mouse; and ability to type.
· Analytical ability to gather and interpret data, to evaluate reports and track progress of initiatives and to determine methods for ensuring coding compliance.
· Demonstrated leadership skills through professionalism as a team player
· Excellent observation, communication and decision-making abilities.
· High degree of interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with physicians, management and coding staff.
· Must be able to work independently, and utilize problem solving techniques and critical thinking skills.
· Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS and MS-DRG, medical terminology and anatomy.
· Knowledge of clinical documentation guidelines, policies and procedures, and the requirements of third party payers most frequently seen with the hospital inpatient population
· Experience with Electronic Medical Records (i.e. Cerner, Epic, Paragon, Meditech etc.)
· Experience with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point)
· Must be able to travel to various locations as needed.
