Position Summary:

Coordinates the activities of the Surgical Services Department including: boarding of patients for surgery and other procedures, assembling charts, entering and reviewing charges on the computer, ordering supplies, answering the telephone, and directing visitors. Completes data entry in patient records. Monitors chart forms including physician orders/consults.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1. Coordinates surgery, endoscopy, and miscellaneous cases correctly with pre-surgery testing, Patient Access, and anesthesia
2. Notifies nurse manager and ordering personnel or respective company of need for equipment and supplies to avoid possible problems or conflicts
3. Updates for add-ons and other changes then notifies appropriate staff, department and physician
Qualifications:
Required:
•High school diploma or equivalent
•Knowledge of Medical Terminology
•Previous experience working with computers and typing proficiency
•Minimum 1year previous clerical experience in the medical field
•BLS certification within 3 months
•Knowledge of keyboard/computer
•Data entry experience

Preferred:  
•Advanced coursework or degree in healthcare/business (Associate's Degree)
•Previous experience in data collection and working with insurance and financial information
•1 year experience as a clerk within the surgical area of an acute care hospital
•3 months experience in boarding surgeries
•Knowledge of software systems to include Microsoft Word and Excel
